Certified Ethical Hacker Cert Guide Review

I recently read the Certified Ethical Hacker Cert Guide by Michael Gregg since I am planning on taking the EC-Council’s Certified Ethical Hacker Test. The book consists of 627 pages, 14 chapters that cover the basics of Ethical Hacking, a glossary of terms and is fully indexed. Each Chapter begins with a pre-test and concludes with a post-test along with practical exercises. Also included in the book are two final practice exams and a CD with additional tests.

The book is very informative and detailed and provides much information regarding tools and methodologies used by hackers to compromise systems. It also provides detailed explanations on how Buffer Overflows, Trojans, Viruses and Worms are created and deployed. Specific information and real world examples on types of encryption and cryptography, the specific use of Intrusion Detection and Intrusion Prevention devices like SNORT and a detailed understanding of Network Protocols and Firewalls are also included.

Although, it is labeled as a “Cert Guide” it actually provides Security Professionals a reference guide on a number of security basics. After reading this book cover to cover and taking the tests, I feel that I have gained better insight into many specifics that I had not known or understood before.

I would recommend this book to all other Security Professionals, who are looking to improve their technical insight into the world of hacking.
